I’m often asked how cold laser therapy works, so here’s the basic guide to Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), or Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT).

There are 75 trillion cells in a human body and they all need energy and electrons to communicate with each other. Laser light delivers required electrons and photons (little energy packets) directly to other cells and enhances both their ability to communicate with each other and their ability to produce ATP (chemical energy) which they require for optimal functioning.  Additionally Cold Laser Therapy (CLT) or Low level Laser Therapy (LLLT) causes the release of anti-inflammatory enzymes and the production of endorphin, which are natural pain-killers and mood elevators.

Red light aids in the production of ATP in cells, which increases cellular health and energy. The radiation (energy) in normal cells stimulates adjacent cells to divide in the normal process of regeneration  and healing. Laser light stimulates abnormal tissue to activate normal inter-cellular radiation, thus stimulating the normal healing process to start again. The photons produced by laser light normalise tissue by activating enzymes within cells. Once activated, enzymes within a cell trigger a chemical reaction in which more enzymes are activated in a domino-type effect. Low Level Laser Therapy has no effect on normal tissue. Photons will only be absorbed by cells that needs them.
