At Laser Medicine, London, we support the work of leading clinical fertility clinics around the world, with the application of Low Level Laser Light Therapy (LLLT), which is recognised as one of several significant IVF ancillary treatments. Patients undergoing clinical IVF / Assisted Reproductive Therapy (ART) can be encouraged by leading IVF clinics, such as Serum Advanced IVF Treatment Centre in Athens, Greece, to participate in red light therapy for fertility in combination with ovarian PRP, which can promote good reproductive health and improve egg quality for older women.

IVF ancillary treatments to improve fertility.

Penny Abatzi, the founder and clinic director at Serum, supports the patient’s choice of IVF ancillary treatments to improve reproductive health and increase the chance of successful conception and pregnancy. We recently shared learnings, and Penny told us that she encourages patients to try everything possible to support their fertility journey. We discussed the effectiveness of LLLT and PRP in particular, during the process of IVF.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy as an IVF ancillary treatment.

Ovarian rejuvenation treatment is a newly pioneered procedure (several clinical trials are underway), which may offer hope to women with early premature ovarian failure, diminished ovarian reserve and to those who are advanced in reproductive age, or have had repeated IVF failure or poor egg quality. OVA-PRP intends to rejuvenate ovarian tissue, stimulate vascularisation, improve blood supply and re-awake dormant eggs into maturation for development within the ovary.

Acupuncture as an IVF ancillary treatment.

Acupuncture has been used for many years in traditional Chinese medicine for a whole range of illnesses. Many women find it very beneficial for their fertility journey as it contributes to their well-being, relaxation, mental and physical balance. Acupuncture has been shown to improve blood and lymph flow and nerve operation, as reproductive organs get more oxygen and nutrients to function properly. In addition, better blood flow in the uterus and the endometrium helps in embryo implantation.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

The journey through parenthood can be very challenging and complicated. The uncertainty that often comes hand in hand with infertility is a difficult experience to manage and can cause depression and anxiety, which can bring back memories that might be painful and make a person feel quite lonely and overwhelmed. At Serum, it is considered very important to offer as much support and understanding to their patients as possible.

Nutrition

It is scientifically proven that a balanced and complete diet contributes to the preparation of the body prior to natural conception and fertility treatments. In addition, weight can have an important impact firstly on egg quality, egg collection procedure and embryo implantation, and secondly on a healthy pregnancy.

Low Level Laser Therapy / PBMT as an ancillary IVF treatment.

Laser Therapy, also known as Red Light Therapy or Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) has proven successful in various clinics worldwide as an IVF ancillary treatment. Success rates have proved as high as 65% for patients who have failed to fall pregnant many times before using various methods of TTC. Furthermore, laboratory studies have repeatedly shown the effectiveness of Low Level Laser Therapy for Fertility due to enhanced mitochondrial activity and ATP production, increased blood flow and the reduction of oxidative damage, promoting the energetic value of the developing embryo in early stages. At our Harley Street fertility clinic, we continue to monitor and celebrate the positive effects of photobiomodulation for reproductive health and fertility.

LLLT Courses to Improve Egg Quality

The optimum age for promoting fertilisation via LLLT is for women in the mature age group of 35-50, because reproductive cells are more likely to lack cellular energy as a result of the ageing process.

Low Level Laser Treatment is recommended as an IVF ancillary treatment, during the lead up to a fertilisation, regardless of whether fertilisation is to be achieved via natural or ART/IVF methods. It prepares the body and reproductive organs, and promotes optimum conditions for conception to take place.

The overall general health and age of a patient determines the frequency of treatment, which is normally around 2-3 treatments every 6 weeks. During a period of trying to conceive (either via natural or IVF methods), we base our protocols around a schedule of 6 treatments over a period of 2 weeks from Day 1 to Day 14 of the cycle, and if conception does not take place, to repeat the following month.
