Therapeutic Laser for Smoking Cessation and Vaping, has proven extremely effective for many people during the process of withdrawal from nicotine smoking and / or vaping, and the cravings that can take place in the time it takes for nicotine to leave the blood stream (usually around 3 days).
Therapeutic Laser for Smoking Cessation and to stop vaping can impact positively in the following ways:
- Withdrawal and cravings reduced.
- Detoxification and repair of the body as it heals.
- Stress and anxiety replaced by feelings of well-being.
- Improved immune system and pain relief.
- Clearer and more positive thinking.
- Improved sleep and more energy.
- Better digestion and elimination.
- Healing of the respiratory system and improved fitness.
How does Therapeutic Laser Acupuncture for Smoking Cessation work?
Therapeutic Laser for Smoking Cessation uses infrared and near infrared wavelengths at a low power (class 3b or class 4 therapeutic laser) within the range of 600-1,000nm, to painlessly stimulate the release of endorphins, including serotonin and dopamine, which naturally drop during a period of nicotine withdrawal. This means that the feelings of craving and anxiety diminish after a therapeutic laser treatment, and feelings of improved well-being and calm increase. The laser acupuncture treatment can make it much easier to go through the withdrawal process and stop smoking or vaping.
Our approach to Laser Therapy for Smoking and Vape Cessation
At Laser Medicine we have developed Therapeutic Laser for Smoking Cessation protocols which employ Trans-Cranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Auricular Acupuncture techniques. Both techniques are reliable methods for people who want to stop smoking and are serious about ending their nicotine habit. We combine the application of Therapeutic Laser with traditional acupuncture points, not only helping withdrawal but improving underlying health conditions such as respiratory issues, allergies, headaches, digestion, sleep, anxiety and depression.
When to receive a Therapeutic Laser Acupuncture session for nicotine withdrawal
When you are ready to have your last cigarette or vape, book in for your Therapeutic Laser for Smoking Cessation session so that you receive the treatment ahead of the withdrawal period.
Things to consider
Take your last smoke either the night before the session, or in the morning before. Be prepared to drink plenty of water in the 48 hours after the session to help the nicotine pass through your system (we advise 2 litres). You may feel like relaxing and sleeping more too – we say enjoy an early night and take it easy.
We also recommend that you take time each day during the first week of a withdrawal for a relaxation / breathing exercise like the one you can find here on Jessica Richards website: Relaxation Exercise.
Number of sessions required
Most people report they only need one session to help them through the withdrawal period, and to stay off cigarettes and vapes long-term.

Clinical studies into the success of laser acupuncture to stop smoking
Clinical studies that support the use of laser acupuncture for smoking cessation as a safe and effective treatment:
- Efficacy of Laser Auricular Acupuncture for Smoking Cessation: A randomised controlled trial
60 adults were randomised to laser auricular acupuncture, counselling, or laser + counselling. At 1-month follow-up, both laser arms showed significantly greater reductions in nicotine dependence (Fagerström scores) than counselling alone; combination performed best. Adults report reductions in withdrawal symptoms (irritability, craving, headache).
- Role of auricular laser acupuncture and psychological counseling in reducing nicotine dependence due to smoking: A randomized controlled trial
150 smokers were given laser auricular acupuncture, counselling, or laser + counselling. All groups improved, but laser + counselling produced the largest Fagerström score reductions and symptom improvements at 1 month. Laser alone outperformed counselling alone.
- Laser acupuncture for adolescent smokers–a randomized double-blind controlled trial
330 adolescents randomised to laser acupuncture vs sham. Reported higher quit/abstinence rates and improved withdrawal symptoms in the laser group versus placebo in the short term.
- Low level laser for the stimulation of acupoints for smoking cessation: A double blind, placebo controlled randomised trial and semi structured interviews
Low-level laser acupoint stimulation (3–4 sessions) vs sham. Reported higher non-smoking rates and less withdrawalin active groups; four sessions outperformed three.
