Laser Medicine London provides medical-led Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapies (HBOT) at the Harley Street, London clinic, as part of our advanced Health Optimisation service. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that involves breathing concentrated oxygen within a pressurised chamber, designed to increase oxygen delivery throughout the body and subsequently support natural healing, repair and recovery processes for adults and children.
We host a comfortable leather seated Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chamber, which offers a relaxing 30 minute therapy (1.3-1.5 ATA), in the heart of London’s private medical district.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapies (HBOT)
HBOT has been used in both conventional and integrative medicine for many years and is increasingly recognised for its potential role in supporting tissue repair, neurological recovery, inflammation management, fatigue, sports recovery, immune function and overall cellular and metabolic health.
At Laser Medicine, HBOT is frequently integrated alongside our advanced Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM) to support mitochondrial function, circulation and cellular regeneration. Inflammation can impair oxygen delivery and cellular performance. Clinical research suggests HBOT may help modulate inflammatory pathways and support tissue oxygenation in areas of physiological stress.
How does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) work?
HBOT involves breathing oxygen in a specially pressurised chamber where atmospheric pressure is increased above normal levels to an optimum of 1.5 ATA for adults and 1.3 ATA fo children. Under these conditions, significantly greater amounts of oxygen can dissolve into the blood plasma and diffuse more effectively into tissues throughout the body. By improving oxygen availability to tissues, HBOT may assist the body’s natural healing and recovery processes, while supporting healthy cellular function. Increased oxygen availability may support:
- Tissue repair and regeneration.
- Improved oxygenation of injured or inflamed tissues.
- Increased mitochondrial energy production.
- Reduction of inflammation and oxidative stress.
- Angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels).
- Neurological support and recovery.
- Enhanced immune system activity.
- Improved circulation and wound healing.
Our Approach to Hyperbaric Oxygen and Cellular Health
At Laser Medicine, we are particularly interested in the synergistic relationship between HBOT and Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM). Both therapies aim to support mitochondrial function and tissue recovery through different but potentially complementary mechanisms.
Oxygen is essential for mitochondrial energy production. Mitochondria generate ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which powers cellular activity, repair and recovery throughout the body. When tissues become inflamed, injured or metabolically compromised, oxygen delivery may become impaired. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy aims to temporarily increase oxygen availability within the bloodstream and tissues, potentially supporting the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

Recommended courses
HBOT for Fertility and Reproductive Health
HBOT for Fertility and Reproductive Health may be particularly relevant for people undergoing IVF, experiencing poor ovarian response, or seeking to optimise overall reproductive health alongside conventional fertility treatments. By delivering high concentrations of oxygen under gentle pressure (1.3 – 1.5 ATA), HBOT for Fertility may help improve circulation, cellular energy production, tissue repair, and oxygen delivery to the testes, ovaries and endometrium — areas critical for healthy reproductive function.
HBOT for Brain Health and Neurological Recovery
The brain is highly dependent upon oxygen and mitochondrial energy production. Emerging research continues to investigate the role of HBOT in supporting neurological recovery, neuroplasticity and cerebral blood flow. HBOT has been explored clinically in areas including:
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
- Stroke rehabilitation support.
- Cognitive dysfunction and brain fog.
- Autism Spectrum Disorders (HBOT has been investigated as a supportive intervention for selected neurodevelopmental symptoms).
- Neurological fatigue.
- Neuroinflammation.
- Functional neurological optimisation.
We recommend a course of 10 Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy sessions 1 or 2 x per week.

Clinical Evidence
Clinical research into Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapies already expands across fertility and reproductive health, neurological recovery, inflammation, tissue repair, wound healing, sports recovery and cellular health optimisation. Published studies have explored mechanisms involving oxygen delivery, angiogenesis, mitochondrial support and modulation of inflammatory pathways.
Fertility and Reproductive Health
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy improves oocyte yield and embryo quality in poor ovarian responders: a pre-post cohort study: HBOT significantly increased the number of oocytes, follicle output rate (FORT), follicle-to-oocyte index (FOI), two-pronuclear (2PN), available embryos, normal fertilization rate, and available embryos rate.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for male infertility: a systematic review and meta-analysis on improving sperm quality and fertility outcomes: A comprehensive literature search identified nine eligible studies, which were assessed for quality using the Jadad scale and analyzed for heterogeneity. The meta-analysis revealed significant improvements in sperm survival, density, morphology, normal sperm rates, and motility following hyperbaric oxygen therapy, with an increased clinical pregnancy rate.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy and in vitro fertilization—a pilot study: Follicular fluid VEGF levels were higher in HBO treated women than in 5 control samples, with 2 out 5 patients achieving succesful pregancy, both with ongoing twin gestations.
Neurological Conditions
Efrati et al., 2013 — chronic stroke
Randomised prospective trial showing HBOT was associated with neurological improvement and evidence of “late neuroplasticity” in chronic post-stroke patients.
Boussi-Gross et al., 2013 — post-concussion syndrome / mild TBI
Randomised prospective trial reporting improvement in symptoms and cognitive function years after mild traumatic brain injury.
Liu et al., 2023 — mild traumatic brain injury
Compared HBOT with normobaric hyperoxia and found both improved cognitive outcomes, with HBOT performing better on cognitive measures.
Hadanny et al., 2018 — age-related cognitive decline
Clinical study reporting significant improvement across cognitive domains after HBOT, suggesting relevance for brain health and cognitive optimisation.
Weaver et al., 2025 — persistent post-brain-injury symptoms
Double-blind randomised trial of 40 HBOT sessions versus sham in adults with persistent symptoms after non-stroke brain injury. Useful because it is recent and rigorous.
Autism / neurodevelopment
