Traditionally, reproductive medicine has maintained that ageing and declining egg quality is irreversible. Yet research into the effectiveness of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or Photobiomodulation (PBM) Therapy for Fertility, shows that it is possible to improve egg quality, slow down the ageing process and significantly improve fertility for women and men using red and near infrared wavelengths applied at the correct power. A growing number fertility clinics around the world, report successful fertilisation in patients who have been struggling to conceive, when using Laser Therapy as an adjunct therapy for Assisted Reproductive Therapy (ART) / IVF or to support natural conceptions.
How does Red Light Low Level Laser Therapy for Fertility work?
Low Level Laser Therapy for Fertility uses Infrared and Near Infrared wavelengths (Red Light and Invisible Light 600-1,000nm) which improves mitochondrial activity and ATP production at a cellular level, increases blood flow and reduces oxidative damage (ROS). In our clinic we frequently observe improved outcomes for people going through the IVF process, and see many successful pregnancies, often through natural conception when IVF may not have previously been successful.

Low Level Laser through Photobiomodulation (PBM) is proven to be effective for many health conditions because it enhances mitochondrial function and ATP production. An average cell contains around 2,000 mitochondria, whereas the oocyte (the human egg cell) has 600,000 mitochondria. Application of Low Level Laser increases the production of cellular energy (ATP) in the mitochondria, which in turn improves the cell’s ability to proliferate, migrate and adhere, which is exactly what a fertilised egg needs to do.
Low Level Laser (LLLT) also improves the body’s functionality in the following ways:
- Increases blood flow.
- Reduces inflammation and oxidative damage.
- Softens scar tissue and releases it through the body’s natural waste system.
- Relives pain.
- Relaxes muscle tension.
- Promotes tissue repair.
- Improves tissue integrity.
- Improves uterine lining.
These factors are beneficial to the reproductive environment, particularly in the case of softening scar tissue, which can be a contributor to fertility issues.
Our approach to Red Light Therapy for Fertility
We use a best-in-class Clinical Class 3b and Class 4 Therapeutic Lasers for the non-invasive application of Low Level Laser to the reproductive organs.
The best light for fertility we have found is using Class 4 Therapeutic Laser, which delivers the optimum amount of focused light, deep into the abdominal tissue. We apply light onto the abdomen, above the ovaries and uterus, and into the sacrum to apply low level light into the back of the uterus. We also work through the lymphatic system, digestive system and central nervous system.
We work with each individual to optimise their health, using LLLT protocols for fertility in conjunction with other laser therapy protocols to maximise the body’s energetic efficiency. These mechanisms and protocols are designed to help rejuvenate eggs and sperm quality, maximise the egg’s potential and to prepare the uterus for fertilisation and pregnancy.
We also advise patients to maintain a healthy diet, sleep, exercise and rest in order to support their metabolic energy, and emotional health throughout their healing journey. All these factors combined help patients reach their peak fertility potential.
We combine the application of Class 4 Therapeutic Laser protocols, with the versatile Powermedic Gigalaser system at our Harley Street clinic in London, to offer a wider application of light, which can help improve the gut microbiome, vaginal microbiome and systemic metabolic health.

For patients with geographic or financial limitations, we also offer the best red light for fertility home use device which provides outstanding red light therapy using a combination of 550 light diodes and 7 Nogier frequencies. This device is easy to use when travelling, and can support clinic sessions by applying regular light at home.

Who can receive treatment
The optimum age for promoting fertilisation via therapeutic laser due to unspecified age-related infertility is in the mature age group of 35-50, because reproductive cells are more likely to lack cellular energy from the ageing process. However, more women under 35 with infertility issues due to conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis and diminished ovarian reserve, can benefit from Therapeutic Laser / Photobiomodulation. LLLT / PBM is recommended to improve the following conditions:
- Low ovarian reserve.
- Poor egg quality.
- Multiple implantation failures.
- Miscarriage.
- Hormonal imbalances.
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
- Endometriosis.
- Adenomyosis.
- Painful periods (dysmenorrhoea).
- Restoring the thickness of uterine lining.
Men with a low sperm count will also benefit from Photobiomodulation Therapy for Fertility.
Recommended courses of treatments using Low Level Laser Therapy for Fertility
For women, Low Level Laser Treatment for Fertility is recommended during the lead up to a fertilisation, regardless of whether fertilisation is to be achieved via natural or IVF methods. This prepares the body and reproductive organs, creating optimum conditions for conception to take place. The overall general health and age of a patient determines the frequency of treatment, which is normally around 2-3 treatments every 6 weeks. As eggs take 3-4 months to mature, treatments can positively impact on current and future cycles, and we find that benefits are exponential.
During a period of trying to conceive (either via natural or IVF), we base our protocols around a schedule of 6 treatments over a period of 2 weeks from Day 1 to Day 14 of the cycle, and if conception does not take place, to repeat the following month.
Men are likely to see an improvement in sperm count after 3 treatments.
We also encourage women to continue treatment during the post natal period, to recover from pregnancy and birthing.
