Low Level Laser Therapy for Neuralgia and Neuropathy is a safe and highly effective treatment for relieving pain associated with peripheral nerve damage (neuralgia), and for helping to heal peripheral nerve damage that has occurred outside of the Central Nervous System (neuropathy). Peripheral nerve damage usually manifests as weakness, numbness and pain, also described as paresthesia, a numbness, tingling or burning sensation – often in the hands and feet and sometimes throughout the arms and legs. Neuropathy can also manifest within the digestive system and affect urination.

Causes of Peripheral Neuropathy

There are various ways in which peripheral nerves are damaged to cause neuropathy:

  1. Autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s, Guillan-Barre or Sjogren’s.
  2. Diabetes, which causes diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
  3. Infections such as Lyme disease and HIV.
  4. Traumatic injuries from accidents and surgery.
  5. Exposure to toxins, including chemo-therapy.

Causes of Neuralgia

The most common forms of neuralgia are:

  1. Post-herpetic neuralgia as a result of shingles.
  2. Trigeminal neuralgia as a result of injury or pressure on the trigeminal nerve.
  3. Other types of neuralgia include intercostal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia.

Low Level Laser Therapy Treatments for Neuralgia and Neuropathy

Therapeutic Laser, also known as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM) uses Infrared and near Infrared wavelengths (600-1,00nm) omitted at a low power output, to help heal soft tissue and relieve pain. Many clinical studies have been carried out around the world, showing the effectiveness of Low Level laser Therapy for Neuralgia and Neuropathy. Light photons attach to the blood and water throughout the peripheral nerve system, increase mitochondrial energy, speed up tissue repair and create significant pain relief.

One of the greatest benefits of Low Level Laser Therapy for Neuralgia and Neuropathy is effective pain relief. Photobiomodulation Therapy resolves inflammation and helps to heal nerve damage over time. Often, patients who have been in constant pain for many years experience significant pain relief, which traditional medication has been unable to address. In many cases their neuropathic symptoms and pain are resolved. Therapeutic Laser treatments help to balance the lymphatic system and encourages the distribution of white blood cells to the necessary areas of the body for healing, and also triggers endorphins into the blood stream to help with pain. Many people have reported long term relief from pain after laser therapy treatments for neuralgia and neuropathy regardless of their condition.

Courses of laser treatments for neuralgia and neuropathy

We work with the K-Laser Therapeutic Laser Cube 4 system to provide Low Level Laser Therapy for Neuralgia and Neuropathy treatments.

Depending on the severity of the condition, we usually recommend a course of 3 treatments at weekly intervals.

Further treatments can be taken thereafter, if required, and as appropriate.
