Hashimoto Disease, also known as Chronic Thyroiditis often leads to an under-active thyroid gland. Many clinical trials, along with real life examples at our Low Level Laser Clinic in London, repeatedly indicate Photobiomodulation as a natural cure for hypothyroidism.

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is caused by the immune system attacking the thyroid gland, which damages it and makes it swell. The condition is more prevalent in women than men. It may also be more prevalent within particular families. As the thyroid is negatively impacted over time, it is unable to produce enough thyroid hormone, which leads to tiredness and weight gain. it may also cause a goitre to to form in the throat (NHS UK).

Clinical trials carried out at the University of Sao Paulo Brazil have proved the efficacy of improving thyroid function with Low Level Laser Therapy. It has been considered within the field of traditional medicine that there is no cure for Hashimoto Disease and that improving thyroid function can only be managed with levothyroxine or similar medication. The findings of the clinical trial in Brazil call this into question. This is great news for anyone who is looking for a natural cure for hypothyroidism.

Many patients at Laser Medicine, London are able to reduce the levothyroxine dose required to treat hypothyroidism after receiving a course of treatments in Low Level Laser Therapy. Laser Medicine patients also experience a relief from the symptoms associated with hypothyroidism, such as tiredness, weight gain and dry skin. They have also reported a significant improvement in the function of their thyroid gland. In some cases patients have been able to stop taking levothyroxine completely (supervised by their prescribing doctor).

A natural treatment plan for hypothyroidism

Food nutrition for hypothyroidism

Patients who experience the most benefit from Laser Therapy for Thyroid, do so in conjunction with maintaining a food nutrition plan recommended for Hashimoto’s Disease and regular exercise. We also fully support the maintenance of an alcohol-free lifestyle.

At Laser Medicine we place a significant emphasis on nutrition and personally follow a whole food diet that leaves out sugar, processed food and chemically farmed produce. We believe that organic vegetables, grass fed meat, wild fish and good fats all combine to reduce inflammation in the body, whereas sugar, flour, processed foods and microwave meals have an inflammatory effect.

A good diet supports good health, and never more so than in the case of Hashimoto’s Disease. Many foods can trigger Hashimoto’s low thyroid flares as well as cause fatigue, rashes, joint pain, digestive issues, headaches, anxiety, depression, and more. Many people with Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism react to gluten, dairy, different grains, eggs, nuts, or nightshades. Sugar, sweeteners, and sweet fruits can also trigger autoimmune thyroid flares.

We therefore highly recommend that patients seeking a natural cure for hypothyroidism are mindful of their diet, and carry out the necessary research as to what works best for them. This article is a good place to start.

Low Level Laser Therapy for Hypothyroidism

Laser Therapy or Photobiomodulation presents a natural cure for hypothyroidism because of the profound effect that certain light wavelengths have when administered at a particular power. This triggers a biological process known as Photobiomodulation, which is similar to the process of photosynthesis in plants. It increases the efficacy of cellular function in cell mitochondria, increases the production of ATP (cellular energy) along with many other upstream and downstream cellular processes.

At Laser Medicine we have developed Photobiomodulation protocols to treat Hypothyroidism in partnership with our patients over several years. We apply Infrared (IR) and Near Infrared (NIR) light at wavelengths between 600-1,000 nm, at a low power intensity (500mW), through the lymphatic system and key nerves throughout the body, without the need to apply the red light directly onto the thyroid gland itself. It is a standard medical procedure not to place any electrical device above the thyroid gland in the neck.

We recommend a course of 6 treatments initially which are spread between 1-2 weeks apart. We then, in partnership with our client, assess the best route forward, putting longer gaps between treatments over time. Patients are able to assess their blood levels with their prescribing GP and often find that they can reduce their dose of Levythyroxine as their blood levels improve.

An initial consultation is £225.

A course of 6 treatments over a period of 2-3 months is £1,200.
